Welcome to the highlight of the year!
Steps Dansestudio wishes to invite you to a jungle party as we stage our own version of The Jungle Book.
Participation in the Christmas show in voluntary, but we hope as many as possible wants to join. It is a great experience for everyone. To work together towards a show gives a lot of motivation for each student, a strong feeling of fellowship in the group and lots of learning and joy of dancing.
14 SHOWS – no ticket limitation
Previous years ticket purchases have been limited to 2 tickets per student. Last year we raised the amount of shows being performed so that everyone would have the chance to invite both family and friends. After positive feedback from you we are maintaining the new system where everyone may purchase as many tickets as they please.
The Christmas show is hosted in Sandnes Kulturhus, distributed over 2 weekends:
3-4th of December and 10-11th of December. There will be 14 shows in total.
TEAMS
In order to make this work (with over 2000 students involved), some groups are dancing in one show and some are dancing in several shows. The students have been divided into teams. It is not possible to switch teams unfortunately.
If your group are set up to do several shows, you commit to participate in all of them. You cannot chose one of them.
We understand that the division of teams does not suit everyone, but we hope that as many as possible can join.
We remind you that it is voluntary to participate.

GENERAL REHEARSAL
Information regarding general rehearsals for students from 4 years old until 4th grade:
We wish to give our youngest students their own general rehearsal so they will have a great experience from dancing on stage. The general rehearsal will be at the main stage in Sandnes kulturhus the same day as the actual performance.

WHAT IS HAPPENING AT THE GENERAL REHEARSAL?
Everybody meets up outside the main entrance at Sandnes kulturhus at 8am. Here you will meet our dance teachers that will register the kids in their group. The teachers will follow the kids to the main theatre, where they will sit together as a group. The kids will now have their staging, and we will show them where to get in and out of the stage. During these rehearsals, some main characters will also be on stage together with the kids. We will try out the sound and the lightning, and in the end, the kids will run through their dance on stage – without costumes. Parents are more than welcome to sit and watch the general rehearsals in the theatre where there will be assigned seats for the parents. We kindly ask all parents to stay in Sandnes kulturhus in case we finish early. The kids are picked up at the same spot as they were registered. Remember to “check out” your kids with the dance teacher before you leave.
After the general rehearsals, everybody goes home and comes back 30 minutes before their performance.

(N.B.! If your group is performing in more than one show, it is the earliest meeting time that applies)
CHECKING IN BEFORE THE SHOW
Everybody meets at the entrance of the library (on the right side at the main entrance). The kids are being registered by one of our staff members before they enter the “Children’s Foyer”. We have a list with all the phone numbers for the parents – this is the number the students are registered with at Steps. If you wish to use another telephone number, we kindly ask you to update us with that information upon arrival. After checking in, the children will be taken care of by our dance teachers – until the show they are attending is finished. In the Children’s Foyer it’s always a great atmosphere! Our teachers will look after and entertain the children. The children will also be able to see the show live on a big screen so they get to see what is happening on stage. Bring a good lunch box, water bottle and if you want games, toys, drawing books etc. Due to lack of space and fire regulations, it will not be possible for parents to stay and wait with the children in the Children’s Foyer. We advise you to prepare your child for this.
CHECKING OUT AFTER THE SHOW
It’s not possible to pick up the children during the intermission of the show. After the show/shows are done we ask the parents to come to the Children’s Foyer and check out their children.
GROUPS THAT ARE DOING 2 SHOWS
Many groups are doing 2 shows this year. Therefor we are opening up for the possibility for the parents to come and say hi to the children between the shows (not during the intermission). Parents who wishes to come and say hi to their children will be let in to the Children’s Foyer in groups due to fire regulations. Steps Dansestudio are responsible for the children as long as they are checked in with us. For everybody’s safety, the children can't leave the Children’s Foyer between the shows.

WHAT IS HAPPENING?
Everyone meets exactly at 4pm in the main theatre at Sandnes Kulturhus. Only the ones on team 1, 5, 9 and 13 will meet up in their basic costume at the general rehearsal. They are going to practice dancing in their costumes. Everyone else is wearing dance clothes. Everyone attending the general rehearsals is allowed to sit and watch when they are not dancing. Nobody is allowed to leave the general rehearsals without permission from one of the dance teachers.
What is happening during the general rehearsals?
Receiving important information
Trying out the stage floor/surface
Staging – practicing where everyone is standing in relationship with the other, and also where to enter and exit the stage
Practicing transitions between dances
Orienting the groups in relationship with the main characters
Sound checking
Light checking
Last checking of costumes
GENERAL REHEARSAL
If you do not meet up on time/do not show up this day, you might be taken out of the show.
Groups from 5th to 7th grade will have their general rehearsal before everyone else. The youngest will therefore be finished a good amount of time before 10pm. Everybody else has to account for being done at 10pm. We will of course let everyone go as soon as possible, but nobody is allowed to leave before permission from his or her teacher. We are aware of the fact that many of you have different school events on both Thursday and Friday evening that you also wish to attend. We are therefore asking everyone who has a Christmas ball or something similar, to bring everything they need and go straight from Sandnes Kulturhus when they are done.

TICKET SALE
Sale starts: TUESDAY 1STOF NOVEMBER AT 10 AM
Those who wishes to watch the show must buy tickets. Those who are participating in the show shall not have a ticket and will be “backstage” during the whole show. You are responsible for getting tickets to the right show. Make sure that you know witch show the student or students you wish to watch on stage, are participating in.You will find an overview of the different teams on our website if you click on “OVERSIKT OVER LAG 2016”. (Sandnes kulturhus does not have this overview.) You can buy tickets when you have found the right performance date and time. Steps are not responsible for tickets bought for the wrong performance.
We do not have a ticket limitation this year. Everyone can invite as many as they want to come and watch the show! From experience, we know that the shows often sell out quickly – many times already the first day. First come, first served!

RULES FOR PARTICIPATION IN STEPS DANSESTUDIO’S CHRISTMAS SHOW:
- Meeting precisely and attending all dance classes from week 42 until the show.
- Meeting precisely and attending your general rehearsal in Sandnes Kulturhus.
- Meeting precisely and attending the shows your group has been assigned to do.
